ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – With battle lines drawn and a set stage, the Central and Unser library hosted the beloved Reading Room Rumble Saturday. The event gives kids the chance to compete in several different Esports including Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and Rocket League, along with newer additions of Marvel Rivals and Tetris. Legislative bill would cut funding for New Mexico public libraries that ban books Those behind the event say they want to continue to make Esports a social event, instead of something that's done at home alone. "I think Esports is a really wonderful thing. Kids are very big on technology right now," says Hannah Shirtly with the City of Albuquerque. "I guess that's probably the biggest thing that kids do with their day a lot of the times is playing video games and being a part of these online communities. It's really vital that there are these spaces that they can meet other people their age and realize that these communities are around them and the cities that they're in." People of all ages are welcome at the Reading Room Rumble but children under 13 years must have adult supervision.
