KAUKAUNA, Wis. (WFRV) - Many families were up before sunrise on Saturday to make their way over to the 1000 Islands Nature Center in Kaukauna to catch a glimpse of nature in action paired with a day of fun. Officials from the Nature Center say that sunrise and sunset are the best times to catch the most eagle activity as eagles are particularly active during these times while hunting for food. After a morning spent outdoors, activities inside the Nature Center began with naturalists answering questions about eagles while sharing the history of the location. The Great Midwest Trivia Contest marks 60th year at Lawrence University "Our area was where one of the first reestablished nesting pairs showed up in the 1980s after the near extinction of the eagles," said Brad Garrity, a Naturalist for the 1000 Islands Environmental Center. "So they hold a special place for us here at 1000 Islands." Families also participated in activities such as a bald eagle obstacle course, a storybook walk and adventure, and there was even a chance to get a close-up look at a live bald eagle presented by the National Eagle Center.
