A woman who was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash on in Encinitas last weekend has been identified as a Carlsbad resident. Emily Hernandez, 66, was struck as she crossed Coast Highway just north of Leucadia Boulevard shortly before 7 p.m. on Jan. 19. She was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla where she died. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release following the accident that the driver immediately fled the scene. The crash is under investigation, and anyone who witnessed the collision or caught video footage of it is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 858-565-5200.
