CVC Wrestling Championships: Trenton High girls establish themselves as top program
Jan 25, 2025
ROBBINSVILLE — It looks like there might be another dynasty emerging in the world of Mercer County wrestling.
After winning the final Mercer County Tournament a year ago,Trenton stormed to the team title in the first year of the Colonial Valley Conference Championships by piling up 195 points with three individual champions at Robbinsville High on Saturday.
The rising Ewing program came in second, while Hamilton, Lawrence and Hightstown rounded out the top five.
Coming in first for Trenton were Princessstorm Woody (114), Eudora Pamphile (132) and Eileen Morales (145).
Ranked in the top three in the state after finishing third in the state last March, Woody repeated as a champion by pinning in the first period. She’s undefeated on the year against girls and has wrestled a lot against boys in dual matches.
Pamphile and Morales both won by decision, but the real key to Trenton’s success is its depth and the ability to score in the majority of weights. In this case it had two girls finish second to go along with the three champions..
“The girls have been focusing on this for the entire year,” said Trenton coach Rob Prunetti. “It’s a really good accomplishment because the tourney is growing and has doubled in size (in the number of girls who entered). It’s definitely more competitive.”

Although the other Mercer girls programs are growing, they still have a way to go to catch up to the Tornadoes. There are 30 girls in the Trenton room and although the majority were unable to compete on Saturday, they were right there cheering on their teammates. Prunetti didn’t hesitate when asked why Trenton has such excellent numbers.
“I’m constantly going around the halls and talking to coaches (in other sports) encouraging girls to come out for the team,” he said. “I sort of beat it out of them convincing them they should come out. For a lot of them the first week is rough because it’s a physical sport, but after they get through that they love being part of the team.”
In other results, Steinert’s Ella Johnson was named the Outstanding Wrestler after pinning in 58 seconds at 165 pounds. Johnson placed at states last and certainly appears capable of doing it again. Another one to watch in the post season is Ewing’s Sam Dupee. She also pinned in her final at 120 pounds.
Hopewell Valley had its first champions when Michalina Kubiak prevailed at 138. Ditto for host Robbinsville after Cristy Mejia came in first at 126. Ewing also got gold from Alexandra Neuberger at 152 and Hightstown had two champions as well with Keyra Huastitlian Reyes at 185 and Gabrielle Sanon at 235.
