College Wrap: Rider men’s basketball falls to Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. — Amarri Monroe’s 19 points helped Quinnipiac defeat Rider, 75-64, on Saturday.
Monroe also had 12 rebounds and three steals for the first-place Bobcats (12-8, 8-1). Ryan Mabrey scored 12 points while finishing 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Khaden Bennett had 11 points and shot 3 of 6 from the field, including 1 for 3 from 3-point range, and went 4 for 5 from the line.
Tariq Ingraham led the way for the Broncs (7-13, 3-6) with 15 points, 14 rebounds, two steals and three blocks. Jay Alvarez added 14 points. TJ Weeks Jr. also had 13 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Rider was held to 22 second-half points after scoring 42 in the opening 20 minutes.
“I thought our guys did some good things. We got outrebounded. We needed to make shots when they were making shots,” coach Kevin Baggett said. “Just have to play better defense, especially in the second half when they started to cut the lead and get back into the game and we needed to get more consecutive stops. We didn’t do that today.”
Rider hosts Saint Peter’s next Friday.
Creighton 79, Seton Hall 54
OMAHA, Neb. — Ryan Kalkbrenner’s 23 points helped Creighton defeat Seton Hall.
Kalkbrenner also added nine rebounds and three blocks for the Bluejays (14-6, 7-2). Steven Ashworth added 17 points while going 6 of 9 (5 for 8 from 3-point range) while he also had nine assists. Isaac Traudt went 4 of 4 from the field to finish with 10 points.
The Pirates (6-14, 1-8) were led by Prince Aligbe, who posted 12 points. Seton Hall also got 10 points, five assists and three steals from Garwey Dual. Emmanuel Okorafor finished with eight points.
Creighton took the lead with 2:12 left in the first half and never looked back. Ashworth led his team in scoring with 14 points in the first half to help put them up 38-34 at the break. Creighton extended its lead to 47-34 during the second half, fueled by a 9-0 scoring run. Kalkbrenner scored a team-high 10 points in the second half as his team closed out the win.
TCNJ 84, Kean 76
EWING — Four players scored in double figures led by Nick Koch with 17 points and the Lions (14-4, 7-4) held off a second-half rally by the Cougars (9-9, 7-4) this time to get a split of the season series.
David Alexandre and Jonathan Okocha had 16 points each and Matthew Okorie added 15 for TCNJ, which has won three straight.
Women’s Basketball
Princeton 62, Cornell 54
ITHACA, N.Y. — Parker Hill collected a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Skye Belker and Fadima Tall netted 12 points apiece and the Tigers (13-5) got back to winning ways by stopping the Big Red (4-14, 0-5).
Quinnipiac 66, Rider 53
LAWRENCEVILLE — Gal Raviv scored 21 points, Anna Foley added 13 and the Bobcats (16-2, 8-1) got out to an early lead and pulled away from the Broncs (3-15, 1-8). Gabby Turco netted 20 points and Winner Bartholomew scored 17 in a losing effort.
TCNJ 75, Kean 62
EWING — Nina Branchizio had 15 points to lead five in double figures and the Lions (13-5, 9-2) led wire to wire in a victory over the Cougars (8-10, 5-6). Katie Fricker finished with 14 points, Grace Kowalski added 1 and Arianna McCleod and Jaclyn Feit had 10 each.
