ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – For the first time since 2018, the UNM men's basketball team has won a road game against UNLV. The Lobos toppled the Runnin' Rebels 75-73 on Saturday afternoon.
Donovan Dent led the charge with 34 points, his most against a conference opponent and his third 30-point outing of the season. This time, he had plenty of help in the paint. Nelly Jr. Joseph recorded 22 points and 18 rebounds, including seven on offense.
Jr. joseph's role down low played a crucial role as UNM outscored UNLV 42-28 in the paint and won the rebounding battle 43-35. The Lobos also recorded 17 second chance points.
"Huge," UNM head coach Richard Pinto said on the win. "Donovan was obviously offensively phenomenal, and I thought Nelly was for sure the unsung hero. [UNLV is} really good and Kevin does a great job with them and we needed to just find a way to get a win."
Now at the halfway point of conference play, the Lobos sit at 9-1 inside of the Mountain West. The team has a week off before its next game which will be at Utah State next Saturday.
