Jan 25, 2025
Demonstrators pressing a variety of causes in support of Palestinians rallied on Main Street midday on Saturday amid the Sundance Film Festival crowds, criticizing Zionism, calling for a free media and addressing the Gaza ceasefire. The demonstrators gathered at the Old Town transit center, marched to Main Street and reassembled on the pedestrianized blacktop. The Park City Police Department estimated up to 50 people marched. The police said the demonstration did not cause law enforcement issues. There were several counter-demonstrators on Main Street, including at least one person carrying an Israeli flag and another person with an American flag. The demonstrators, some carrying Palestinian flags, chanted phrases like “From the sea to the river, Palestine will live forever” and “One, two, three, four, occupation out the door. Five, six, seven, eight. Israel is a fascist state.”Some of the marchers carried large signs saying “Deplatform Zionism” and “Let Gaza Live.” Others held smaller signs with messages like “You only target journalists when your enemy is the truth” and “End the occupation.”There was a heavy law enforcement presence during the demonstration, including members of the Police Department and the Summit County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol. The demonstrators left Main Street as a group and marched back to the transit center after a little more than an hour. The demonstration resembled a pro-Palestinian march that was held during Sundance in 2024. The event last year drew up to 200 people. The post Palestinian supporters rally in Park City during Sundance for second consecutive year appeared first on Park Record.
