MORENO VALLEY — Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Moreno Valley that also left three other people with serious injuries, authorities said Saturday.
It happened around 11 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Ironwood Avenue and Heacock Street, north of the 60 Freeway, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies from the Moreno Valley station arrived at the scene and located an Infinity and a Mercedes that were involved in the crash, officials said.
A passenger in the Mercedes suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers from both vehicles and a passenger from the Infinity were all taken to a hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
Authorities said the impact of the collision caused the Mercedes to be pushed into two pedestrians standing on the sidewalk. One of the pedestrians was taken to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, while the second pedestrian was not injured.
The deceased passenger was identified as Ancelmo Sanchez, 39, of Perris; and the pedestrian was identified as Luis Lopez, 31, Moreno Valley.
The cause of the collision was under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash was urged to contact Deputy Kevin Seguin of the Moreno Valley station at 951-486-6700.
