Bryant Defeats Binghamton To Move To 60 In America East Play

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- Rafael Pinzon dropped his 3rd 30 point game of the season and Earl Timberlake had a double-double as the Bryant Bulldogs overcame a slow start in the first half and beat the Binghamton Bearcats by a final score of 83-69.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 12-9 overall and 6-0 in the America East. Saturday’s win gives Bryant their best start to conference play since joining the America East in 2022. Bryant returns to the court on Thursday night (Jan. 30) when they will travel to Baltimore to face UMBC for a matchup on ESPNU.
Bryant’s first lead of the game came with less than three minutes to go in the first half. Rafael Pinzon knocked down a three pointer putting Bryant up 31-29. Bryant would not surrender the lead for the rest of the day. The Black and Gold outscored Binghamton 47-36 in the second half, powering them to victory.
Pinzon led all scorers on Saturday with 30 points (11-21 FG, 4-8 3pt). This marked Pinzon’s 3rd 30 point performance of the season and his first since returning from a lower body injury on Jan. 4. Earl Timberlake finished with his 7th double-double of the year after posting 10 points and 12 rebounds. Timberlake also had six assists, three blocks, and a steal. Withers added 16 points along with five boards, three assists, and three steals. Barry Evans logged 10 points for Bryant and had five rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Keyshawn Mitchell (4-6 FG) got back into double-figures on Saturday finishing with 11 points and four boards.

Binghamton would start off play on a 12-2 run, Tymu Chenery and Wes Peterson would each have five points in that span.
Connor Withers scored the first basket for the Bulldogs after driving for a left handed layup.
Chenery tallied 7 points in the first seven minutes of play, knocking down a pair of threes.
Connor Withers nailed the first three pointer for the Bulldogs with 10:41 to go in the first.
Chenery stepped into a pull up jumper over Keyshawn Mitchell to give Binghamton a two possession lead.
Barry Evans snagged a loose ball following a missed three point attempt and jammed it home on a dunk.
Rafael Pinzon knocked down his first three pointer off a feed from Earl Timberlake giving Bryant their first lead of the day with 2:49 to play in the first half.
Evans continued to display his defensive prowess, picking off a pass before going coast to coast and throwing down a one handed jam.

Binghamton’s Chris Walker scored the first points of the second half after driving through the lane for a layup.
Withers and Pinzon provided early offense for Bryant out of the break. Withers would knock down his second three of the day and Pinzon would hit a turnaround bank shot from the right elbow.
Kvonn Cramer had blocks in back to back possessions for Bryant including a rejection at the rim off of a drive from Chris Walker.
Connor Withers found nylon after peeling off a screen from Earl Timberlake. Draining a three just under the 14 minute mark.
Earl Timberlake posted up Binghamton’s Gavin Walsh under the basket and scored his second bucket of the day.

Withers and Pinzon hit back to back threes for the Bulldogs ahead of the under 8 media. Withers drilled a long range shot just below the logo and Pinzon connected on a try in the left corner.

Pinzon eclipsed 30 points for the Black and Gold after sinking a pull up three pointer off a feed from Earl TImberlake with 1:54 to play.

Bryant held a close 34-32 edge on the glass.
