This was the sixth episode of the eruption since it started in December, and lasted just over 13 hours. The fountains of this episode had been slowly declining throughout the morning, with lava covering nearly half the floor of the crater.
Prior to the sixth eruption, there were small, sporadic spatter fountains and continued to increase in intensity for several hours.

Officials want to remind the public of potential hazards related to the eruptions, particularly the water vapor, carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide. Sulfur dioxide, in particular, can create vog, which can be hazardous. Pele's hair can also be carried by the wind.
