Weather Forecast: Winds crank up starting Sunday
Jan 25, 2025
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A relatively quiet Saturday here in Rochester, which is a nice thing to say. Clouds will continue their dominance into the overnight hours as temperatures fall into the teens for overnight lows.
8-Day Forecast
On Sunday, expect gusty winds to pick up, with a few gusts potentially reaching over 30 mph. While these winds won’t cause any major issues, they will make the mid to upper 20s feel noticeably colder, so be sure to bundle up if you’re heading outside. Along with the wind, we’ll see a few more snow showers scattered throughout the day, but any accumulation should remain light and minor. If you're planning to head out to watch the Bills game Sunday evening, a few snow showers may be around, but nothing that should disrupt your plans or slow you down.
High wind watches will take effect for Monroe, Orleans, Genesee and Wyoming counties starting Monday morning and lasting through Monday evening. We could see wind gusts exceed 50 mph in some areas. Otherwise, very light snow showers will stick around in the area as temperatures get into the upper 20s and lower 30s. Tuesday, another cold front will slice through the region, bringing a new round of scattered snow showers. Temperatures will likely be the warmest right after midnight and will decrease throughout the day.
A High Wind Watch is in effect for Rochester and points westward from Monday morning through Monday night. A slightly unusual setup for us locally, but one that could still produce 50-60 mph wind gusts at times. Gusts of that caliber will be enough to bring down branches & result… pic.twitter.com/iquKDOn5kG— Eric Snitil (@EricSnitilWx) January 25, 2025
A clipper system looks to move into the area for Wednesday and into Thursday. We leave the highest chance of snow for Wednesday but leave chances for snow Thursday and Friday on the lower side. Temperatures drop back down into the mid 20s for highs for the end of the week.
Next weekend looks to start off on a quieter note, but trends are looking to suggest a system to bring rain/snow mix for the second half of the weekend. However, we are way too far out to know anything specific at this point in time, so we leave the chances very low.
