Solano County Library ‘Reading Machine’ van to stroll through communities
Jan 25, 2025
(KRON) – The Solano County Library has debuted a new way to connect with the community, and it has wheels. Solano County residents make room for "The Reading Machine" van.
The van, according to the library, was designed to promote library services, collections and educational opportunities directly to the community. People who stop by The Reading Machine can receive library swag and participate in craft activities.
Outreach Librarian Joan Parker recalls to KRON4.com when a young regular library user and his grandmother stopped by The Reading Machine. The young boy was granted the chance to spin the prize wheel, where he won a tote bag that had a photo of The Reading Machine. Parker said the child lit with excitement.

If you think The Reading Machine van looks familiar, it is quite similar to Scooby Doo’s crew Mystery Machine van.
On occasion, the van also has a small selection of books that library cardholders can check out.
Parker said a goal of The Reading Machine is to promote residents getting library cards. Parker expressed the advantages of having a library card, which includes checking out more than 75 books, digital resources, free homework assistance on Tutor.com and checking out video games.
The next event The Reading Machine is scheduled to make an appearance is at Fairfield Cordelia Library on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. For the van’s pop-up visits and scheduled stops, visit the Solano County Library’s website.
