CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- One person was killed as a south Charlotte house went up in flames Friday night, Medic officials confirmed. The Charlotte Fire Department responded to a home around 7 p.m. on Jan. 24 in the 1000 block of Montford Drive, near Woodlawn Road. Crews observed heavy fire upon arrival. A search began in the house while controlling the blaze, and unfortunately found someone dead inside. According to CFD, smoke detectors were found on the lower floor but not on the main floor. In addition to the deceased, another victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, Medic said. The other occupants are being assisted by the Red Cross. Investigators believe the fire was accidental and started in the carport area; however, the exact source is still unknown. CFD says there were no signs of criminal activity or foul play. The damage loss is estimated at $150,000. “On behalf of Charlotte Fire, I extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim lost in this tragic incident. Our thoughts remain with those affected as we continue to support them in the days ahead," CFD Chief Reginald Johnson said.
