(WFRV) - U.S. Attorney Timothy M. O'Shea for the Western District of Wisconsin announced that a 52-year-old Wisconsin man was sentenced to 5 and a half years in federal prison on fentanyl charges. The sentencing occurred on Friday, as Jerry Tate of Beloit pled guilty on October 28, 2024, to charges of distributing fentanyl and possessing 50 grams or more of fentanyl and meth for distribution. From Sept. 2022 until May 2023, Tate traveled to La Crosse County and stayed at different hotels for multiple days. In the time he spent, he sold meth and fentanyl to a confidential informant. Through five controlled purposes, Tate sold over 33 grams of fentanyl and more than 13 grams of meth. Suspect in western Wisconsin homicide, shooting quickly apprehended Tate was subsequently arrested in May of 2023, officials searched his hotel room and found over 100 grams of both drugs, distribution tools and over $1,500. He was out on bond for state charges and arrested again for continuing to traffic fentanyl. Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson noted at sentencing that the length of sentence was deserved due to the time frame of Tate's actions and the dangers of fentanyl. No more details are available.
