What is behind the endofcycle song on your Samsung washer? Can you turn it off?

(NEXSTAR) -- If you own a Samsung washing machine, chances are you've heard the bright and lengthy end-of-cycle alarm that notifies you that your clothes are clean. But did you know that the song has a name?
The roughly 30-second tune that plays to notify you that the cycle has ended comes from Austrian composer Franz Schubert's Piano Quintet in A Major, otherwise known as "Die Forelle", or "The Trout" in German.
According to Husker, a Samsung employee chose the tune over a decade ago in an effort to convey comfort in the home.

Composed in 1817, the song is based on a poem written by German writer Christian Friedrich Daniel Schubart, which means that the jingle also has lyrics to sing along to!
The poem tells the story of a fisherman attempting to catch a speedy trout swimming in a stream.
Though the idea was to brighten up the mundane task of doing laundry, not everyone is a fan. For those who wish to shut it off, there is a way to do so.
Instructions may vary depending on the model of the machine, but according to the Samsung general guide, the melody can be turned off by simultaneously pressing the bell icon and the two buttons above it. For some, instead of a bell, there will be an "alarm off" button.
For other models, consult the machine's manual to shut off the alarm.
