The Beard is officially back in LoDo. The Rockies named Charlie Blackmon as special assistant to the general manager on Saturday ahead of the start of Rockies Fest at Coors Field. It’s a move that doesn’t exactly come as a surprise, considering Blackmon had hinted he wanted to stay involved with the organization in some capacity following his retirement last year. In the role, Blackmon will assist GM Bill Schmidt in all areas of baseball operations. Blackmon spent his entire 14-year career with Colorado. The four-time all-star and two-time Silver Slugger ranks among the top Rockies in an array of statistical categories, including first in triples, second in games played, runs scored, hits, doubles, extra-base hits and total bases, and tied for fifth in homers. This story will be updated.
