WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A teen is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting officers before leading them on a chase, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department. On Friday at 11:15 p.m., WSPD officers were in the area of 30th Street and North Patterson Avenue when they heard several gunshots, followed by a car leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle at Shattalon Drive and University Parkway; however, the driver allegedly failed to yield to blue lights and sirens. The car, operated by a Winston-Salem 16-year-old, rammed two police vehicles and fled on Shattalon Drive, police say. Additional arrest made in 2024 Greensboro homicide, police say Based on the use of the car to assault officers, a chase was initiated and traveled from the north side of Winston-Salem toward the east side of the city, ending when the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a telephone pole on N. Liberty Street at E. 28th Street. The suspect then fled on foot and was apprehended immediately. He was not injured during the incident. A firearm was located on the path he ran, according to police. A juvenile passenger was removed from the vehicle when it caught fire after crashing into the telephone pole. They were taken to a local medical facility where their injuries were deemed non-life-threatening. They will not be charged in connection to the investigation. No victims or damaged property were located in the 30th Street and North Patterson Avenue areas. With the Raise the Age law in effect as of Dec. 1, 2024, the 16-year-old was charged as an adult with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and felony flee to elude as. Additional charges are forthcoming. WSPD is withholding the release of booking photos to further investigate. The investigation remains ongoing.
