CHARLOTTE, N.C. – One person died in a house fire in south Charlotte on Friday night. “On behalf of Charlotte Fire, I extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim lost in this tragic incident,” Charlotte Fire Chief Reginald Johnson said. “Our thoughts remain with those affected as we continue to support them in the days ahead.” Around 7 p.m., firefighters responded to a single-story home showing heavy fire in the 1000 block of Montford Drive. Firefighters began extinguishing the blaze while conducting a search of the residence. Inside, they found a victim dead inside the home. Another victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Other occupants in the home were uninjured. The fire was controlled by around 8 p.m. The remaining occupants are receiving assistance from the Red Cross at this time. The investigation determined that the fire was accidental and originated in the carport area. The exact source has yet to be determined, Charlotte Fire said. The fire caused an estimated $150,000 in property damage. Investigators said they found no evidence of criminal activity or foul play.
