RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Construction for Richmond's Texas Beach Bridge will begin soon after its closure nearly three years ago due to “severe structural damage."
On Wednesday, Jan. 22, Richmond Parks and Recreation announced that construction for the Texas Beach Bridge will begin soon.
Constructed from steel and concrete in the 1970s, the bridge was closed in Sept. 2022 after it was determined to be structurally unsafe during an inspection.

In Oct. 2024, Richmond posted an invitation for bids for the Texas Beach Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation project. According to the project overview, the rehabilitation is a “high priority for the City as it seeks to restore safe access to this charming riverside park land.”
The city originally planned to reopen the bridge earlier in the summer of 2024, but in August of that year, the city's Parks, Recreation and Community Development told 8News that it was working to have repairs made by 2026.
"Stay tuned for updates as we work to bring this major infrastructure project to life," Richmond Parks and Recreation said in its Jan. 22 Instagram post. "We appreciate your patience and support as we make the space even better!"
