State Supt. Walters commends Dr. Polk on Teacher Merit Pay

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - The State Department of Education leader Ryan Walters on Fridaypraised Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) Superintendent Dr. Jaimie Polk in implementingthe Oklahoma Teacher Empowerment Program (OTEP) for OKCPS teachers.
According to Walters, the innovative program fosters an education system where exceptional teaching is recognized, rewarded and celebrated.
"Oklahoma is leading the nation in innovative solutions to reward our best teachers and keep them in the classroom where they can best serve our students. By focusing resourceson rewarding high-performing educators, we will attract and retain top-tier talent in our classrooms while driving significant improvements in student outcomes," said Walters. "I commend Dr. Polk for her vision and leadership. In implementing the Oklahoma Teacher Empowerment Program, she has help ensure her teachers are eligible for substantial raises."
Supt. Walters latest ODSE changes raises questions
Program participants will also assist the development efforts for emergency-certified teachers additionally as follows:
Conduct training for emergency-certified teachers preparing for certification tests
Attend professional development sessions
Develop curriculum in collaboration with district teams
Conduct high intensity tutoring for targeted students
Preparation of emergency-ceritified teachers based on district pacing guides
33 OKCPS teachers are participating in the program, totaling $211,500 directly into their pockets, says Walters.
