Man sentenced to 5 years for fatal hitandrun of Chesapeake 8yearold

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A man was sentenced to a total of five years in prison on Friday for the fatal hit-and-run of an 8-year-old boy in Chesapeake.
Arrest made in connection to deadly hit-and-run of 8-year-old
According to officials, Richard Humbert was sentenced to 10 years with five suspended, along with three years of supervised probation upon release.
A jury found Humbert guilty in November of 2024 of failing to report an accident, which resulted in the death of an 8-year-old boy who was trying to cross South Battlefield Boulevard near Hillcrest Parkway.
Guilty verdict in fatal hit-and-run of 8-year-old in Chesapeake
Police said that on Oct. 23, 2023, Humbert was driving a Honda Civic when he struck Forrest Hooper, 8, while he was attempting to cross the street. Humbert told police on Oct. 5 that he hit a deer, but no traces of deer fur were found on the front of his vehicle.
An investigation of Humbert's phone also revealed that he had repeatedly searched for Chesapeake news stories in the 24 hours following the incident.
