John McCoy and Garrett Shearman were at a Metairie restaurant when they saw a painting on the wall of a house that looked very familiar to them. The portrait was of 32 Pelham Drive, a Metairie Club Gardens luxury home that McCoy and Shearman were listing at the time.
“It has a beautiful, big oak tree in the front, and it’s one of the most iconic, charming homes in Old Metairie, with a grand ole stately, historic appeal to it, so much so that it left an impression on that artist,” said McCoy.
The Black Art Luxury team of McCoy and Shearman, with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Preferred, served as both the listing and sales agents on the sale of 32 Pelham Drive, which sold for $2,250,000 on Jan. 14.
Metairie Club Gardens is a historic neighborhood founded in 1929 and is known for stately homes on landscaped, oversized lots and sprawling oak trees down the streets that provide coverage and add curb appeal. Pelham Drive dates back as far as the 1920’s, and 32 Pelham Drive was originally built in 1947. The three-story home has had a series of renovations and upgrades since 2012. It features 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, and 5,943 square feet of living space.
“It embodies the charm and luxury of the quintessential Old Metairie home and is located on one of the most historic streets in the highly desirable Metairie Club Gardens,” said Shearman. “You can tell that the sellers have put a lot of hard work into the property over the years, from the curated landscape, giving it beautiful curb appeal, to the sophisticated interior renovations and upgrades, and to the breathtaking backyard paradise with the pool and hot tub.”
32 Pelham Drive greets visitors with a grand staircase, high ceilings, floors lined with refinished old wide-pine planks, and recessed lighting that adds a glow to the kitchen, den, and sunroom. The large den boasts a functional fireplace, pool table, and surround sound, and it leads into the sunroom, which offers views of the backyard that includes a saltwater pool, hot tub, and plenty of covered space. Each bedroom features a newly renovated en-suite bathroom. The third floor boasts versatile, flexible space, such as a bonus den or game room.
The chef’s kitchen was renovated and designed by Metairie-based Lagarde’s Kitchen and Bath Design. It features marble countertops, double stainless-steel sinks, a massive walk-in pantry, an island, kitchen table, and appliances by Miele, Dacor, and Sub-Zero. “The kitchen is very open and beautiful with lots of room to cook, dine, and entertain,” said McCoy. “It was designed and upgraded with top-of-the-line appliances, adding to the luxury of the space.”
