BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A Bakersfield woman accused of attempting to shoot an arrow at a police officer during an assault investigation pleaded no contest Thursday to the six charges filed against her. Sandy Lynn Ramirez made what's known as an "open plea" -- when a defendant enters no contest pleas to all counts in the hope the court sentences them to a lesser punishment than what’s sought by the prosecution. The court-indicated sentence is 270 days in jail, prosecutors said. Sentencing is scheduled in March. Ramirez pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and resisting arrest using force or threats, all felonies, as well as misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, battery and assault on a peace officer. On a November morning in 2023, police were called to Bernard Street near Fashion Place to a report of an assault. They contacted a woman who said Ramirez grabbed her by the neck and choked her. Ramirez also allegedly accosted a 16-year-old girl who used pepper spray to defend herself. Ramirez barricaded herself inside her bedroom. When police tried contacting her, she fired an arrow into the door and threatened she had a gun, police said. She was taken into custody about 20 minutes later after police used a Taser.
