LAKEVILLE, Mass. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after a large fire broke out on a farm in Lakeville Thursday night. A caller reported hearing a loud explosion that shook his house just before 7 p.m. and saw a ball of fire when he went outside. The barn at Conway Farms on Southworth Street was fully engulfed in flames. Fire Chief Michael O'Brien said there were no fire hydrants in the area so they had to call in tankers from other towns to haul in water from a half mile away. "For a small town, mutual aid is a lifesaver, literally," O'Brien said. "We have companies here from Middleboro, Freetown, Raynham and Berkley all coming in and helping out, on scene within minutes of the original call and together we got the job done." The fire was contained to the barn, and several horses that were being boarded in a neighboring barn were evacuated. No people and no animals were hurt.
