The busiest regular season weekend of high school wrestling at Riggs High School takes place this weekend. Action begins Friday afternoon when Pierre hosts their annual girls invitational tournament. The Governors will be favored to win the event, but stiff challenges could come from Aberdeen Central and Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon among others. The tournament will also feature several top-ranked female wrestlers from around the state in addition to most Central South Dakota squads. Over 35 teams are scheduled to compete Friday. Then Saturday offers the annual boys East/West Dual Tournament beginning at 11:00 AM. Brandon Valley, Harrisburg and Watertown join Pierre as teams from the east dual teams from the west in Rapid City Central and Stevens, plus Spearfish and top-ranked Sturgis. The dual tournament is the largest home event on the Governors’ schedule each year. Both the main and auxiliary gyms will be used throughout the weekend. As a reminder, State Wrestling Tournament tickets are still available through the Athletic Director’s office until the end of January at Riggs High School.
