SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Strong winds and power outages have prompted schools in East County to cancel classes for the fourth day in a row. The San Diego County Office of Education has announced the following school closures for Friday, Jan. 24: Mountain Empire Unified School District Warner Unified School District "The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts," SDCOE said. Photos captured from fires in La Jolla, Otay Mountain On Thursday, strong winds and low relative humidity fueled fires in La Jolla and Otay Mountain. In La Jolla, the Gilman Fire erupted near buildings and prompted evacuations, but was knocked down after burning three acres. At Otay Mountain, the Border 2 Fire continues to burn into Thursday evening, reaching over 500 acres. A Red Flag Warning has been extended until 10 a.m. Friday for San Diego County valleys and mountains.
