Springfield police cruiser hit by gunfire, suspects arrested following chase

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Multiple people have been arrested Thursday night after Springfield Police officers came under fire while conducting surveillance, resulting in a multi-agency search in the North Branch Parkway area.
According to Springfield Police Department Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) detectives were monitoring the 0-100 block of Fernwold Street in an unmarked cruiser when the vehicle was struck by gunfire. Fortunately, no officers were injured.
The suspect vehicle left the scene but later crashed on Grayson Drive near Fox Road. The individuals inside the vehicle escaped on foot into the woods, prompting a large-scale search. Multiple suspects have since been detained and arrested, but officers continue to search for additional individuals believed to be involved.
Residents in the North Branch Parkway area were urged to stay vigilant, lock their doors, and report any suspicious activity immediately. Authorities have warned that the suspects are considered armed and dangerous.
