Mother's boyfriend arrested after 7yearold girl accidentally shot, killed by sibling in North Carolina: Police

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A man has been arrested after a 7-year-old girl was accidentally shot and killed by her sibling Thursday morning in Kannapolis, authorities said.

According to Kannapolis Police, officers were called to a home along Cabarrus Arms Drive around 7:30 a.m. where they found a young child who had been shot.
The 7-year-old girl died from her injuries at the scene.
The investigation determined she had been accidentally shot once by her sibling. The gun, owned by the mother’s boyfriend, Timothy W. Burris, 33, was unsecured at the home when the sibling picked it up and it accidentally fired.
Burris has been charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury, storing a firearm in a manner accessible to a minor, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Burris was issued a $25,000 bond. His first court appearance is on Jan. 24.
