VALDERS, Wis. (WFRV) - A woman battling breast cancer was honored and the focus of a benefit to raise money and awareness at the Valders' Varsity Girl's basketball game on Thursday. Amanda Torres of Whitelaw is a fourth-grade girl's basketball coach in the fight of her life against stage four inflammatory breast cancer. Torres lost her husband Peter to cancer five years ago, as well and the community is rallying around her. Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo earns 9th straight All-Star selection Torres' daughter Lexie is one of her players, and the idea for the benefit on Thursday night came from one of her friends. "There's a girl that my daughter is close with, Megan Hochkammer, who plays on the varsity team," Torres said. "Her [Hochkammer] and Anna Olson on the varsity team wanted to do something to help out." Hochkammer and Olson along with their mothers helped spearhead the night, much to the delight of Torres. Brown County Sheriff’s Office helps newly adopted dog and owner get back home "It's amazing to see so many people who are so kind and generous with their prayers and support," Torres said. "It's just amazing that a small community comes together in a time of need for people." The benefit featured a free throw contest and 50/50 raffle tickets to win one of 50 donated baskets. The raffle tickets were earned by donating money to Torres.
