New opioid settlement reached in Purdue Pharma lawsuits
Jan 23, 2025
(CNN) — Purdue Pharma and its Sackler family owners have reached a new opioid settlement to resolve thousands of lawsuits.
Several State Attorneys General announced the 7-point-4 billion dollar national settlement.
The lawsuit alleged oxycontin pain medication caused a nationwide opioid addiction crisis.
The settlement calls for the sacklers to pay 6-and-a-half billion dollars …with Purdue Pharma paying 900-million dollars.
Under this new deal, the Sackler family does not receive immunity from potential future opioid lawsuits.
Individual victims who don’t join this settlement could pursue their own lawsuits against the company in the future.
