2 DC men sentenced to 2 years in prison for breaking into Gucci store, stealing handbags

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- The U.S. Attorney's Office for D.C. said two D.C. men were sentenced to two years in prison for breaking into a Gucci store in Northwest D.C. and stealing handbags.
The investigation revealed that on Sept. 9, 2024, at about 11 p.m., police saw a large group of people trying to break into the Gucci store at the 1000 block of I Street while it was closed.
Video footage from inside the store showed the suspects kicking the doors and breaking into the store. The suspects were then seen taking handbags from the display stands.

Police then went near the entrance of the store and saw the suspects inside. Officers then went into the store and approached the suspects, who attempted to leave.
The suspects then went to the back of the store where they were arrested by police. On Nov. 19, 2024, Husan Thurston, 32, and Alton Pernell, 28, pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary.
On Jan. 22, Thurston was sentenced to 24 months in prison and three years of supervised release. Pernell was sentenced to 24 months in prison, with six months suspended, three years of supervised release suspended, and a year of supervised probation.
