This arctic blast threw one last punch this morning, with most of the DMV waking up to temperatures in the single digits. Several locations were near zero degrees under clear skies and calm winds. Thankfully, with the warmup underway, we will not see temperatures like that again anytime soon! We've surpassed yesterday's high temperatures, and readings continue climbing through the 20s. We'll see peak temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s, with a solid chunk of the DMV returning to the freezing mark for the first time in days. A weak front nearby will continue to produce high clouds that will sometimes filter out the sun, but we'll still see plenty of sunshine. While it won't be as brutal, overnight low temperatures will remain cold for the next few nights. Readings tonight will fall back into the teens, and it could be slightly colder out toward the mountains. A blanket of clouds will help keep it a little warmer, with possible snow showers across the higher terrain to the west. Conditions tomorrow will be a carbon copy from today, with some sunshine and temperatures in the mid-30s. Another wave of high pressure will give us mostly sunny skies on Saturday and begin the next phase of the warmup. Overnight lows will climb back into the 20s over the weekend, with high temperatures reaching into the mid-40s by Sunday. No signs of colder air returning into next week, with readings in the 40s hanging around through next Thursday. The pattern also appears quiet, with any potential storm systems missing the area. The first will pass to our south Monday into Tuesday, kicking up some cloud cover but not bringing rain or snow into the DMV. The next chance for any significant precipitation doesn't show up until late next week, but it's not a guarantee. We'll watch for the opportunity of a few spotty rain showers next Thursday. Enjoy the warmer air, and have a great rest of your Thursday! 7-Day Forecast: Today: Partly cloudy and finally warmer.
