Brighton Police: Car breakins impacting suburban towns
Jan 23, 2025
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Those breaking into cars in our area have recently focused on neighborhoods within the City Rochester like Park Ave and South Wedge, but this trend is also impacting suburban towns.
The Brighton Police Department shared Thursday - the ones they are seeing are usually at larger apartment complexes.
In just the last week, about 10 cars were broken into throughout the town according to the Brighton Crime Watch map.
Sergeant Julio Montes said the most important thing for people to do is to make sure all valuables are taken out of the car, or out of sight.
He also tells News 8 that they are about where they were this time last year - adding while the break-ins are not the most serious offense, they can lead to other more troubling crimes.
“It could be 10 to 20-dollars, loose change. They’re stealing peoples' ID's that are left in the car leading to other crimes like identity theft they could be used for so make sure you’re not leaving anything with personal information in the vehicle also,” Montes added.
Sgt. Montes said that Brighton Police Department does believe they are the same suspects from the city break-ins, but there is nothing confirming that just yet.
Brighton Police do ask that residents of Brighton pay attention to the crime watch page as it gets updated every day around 2pm.
That way you can stay up to date with any incidents, and as always if you see something, especially in the overnight hours, say something.
