Primetime 585 Spotlight Team: Honeoye FallsLima boys wrestling
Jan 23, 2025
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) - This week's Primetime 585 Spotlight team is the Honeoye Falls-Lima boys wrestling team.
The Cougars won the Monroe County Division III League title with a win over Brockport, defeating the Blue Devils 45-23.
HFL earned several pins in the match coming from Owen Englert, Chris Settles and Cam Mosher. Monroe County Champions Jacob McVige and Waylan Winseman also won by pin.
Patrick Winseman added on a 9-4 win, and Chris Noto, also a Monroe County Champion, had a thrilling overtime victory.
Noto is one of the most decorated wrestlers in Section V with a career record of 157-9 with 103 pins. This year, he's earned a 36-1 record.
Noto is also a four-time Monroe County Champion and is seeking his fifth sectional championship. When asked how he keeps his cool during matches, he had a simple answer.
"Mindset," he said. "Just telling myself I'm going to win with how hard I worked."
HFL has gone 15-4 in dual meets this year and has won the Windsor Christmas Tournament, the Chris Bourne Monroe County Championship and the Hornell State Farm Classic. The Cougars now hope to ride that momentum into sectionals and win the second title in school history.
"We do what we always do," Englert said. "We go into the room every single day, and we all work our butts off. We've been doing this ever since youth. There's no difference. We're all just working."
With a dominant season, HFL is the team to beat in Section V. However, seniors like Gabe Wastowicz welcome the target on their backs.
Congratulations to the HFL boys wrestling team for earning the Spotlight Team of the week!
