Denver skiers and snowboarders looking to shred in city limits can make the trek to the Ruby Hill Rail Yard starting Sunday to try out newly designed rails, boxes and configurations. The free urban terrain park, which is a joint venture between Denver Parks and Recreation and Winter Park Resort, will be open until March as long as the weather cooperates, city officials said in a news release Thursday. The new park features include options for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced, according to Denver staff. Parks and Recreation will offer free weekend equipment rentals, including snowboards, boots, helmets and snow tubes, starting Feb. 2. Located off South Platte River Drive and West Florida Avenue, Ruby Hill Park is open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. The rail yard is lighted daily from 4 to 9 p.m. Free equipment rentals are available Fridays from 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The rail yard will also host free community events throughout the season, including the Burton Mystery Series on Feb. 8 and CoreNation Rail Jam on March 1.
