Groups gather at Kansas Capitol to support mental health in school

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Mental health services are important to academic success and overall well-being.
The Kansas Association of School Psychologists and other groups hosted a school mental health advocacy day. Advocacy groups like HeadQuarters Kansas discussed their unique service which pairs teens with similar-aged peers.

"With school psychologists, school nurses, school counselors all being around, we thought it was a great way for us to provide that resource," said HQ Community Educator Sheilah Tackett said. "Kids might not be as comfortable talking to an adult as they may be talking to a peer their own age or close to their own age. So, we think that they're going to be more comfortable opening up."
Gov. Laura Kelly also made brief remarks at the gathering.
