TANGIPAHOA, La. (WGNO) — A Hammond woman is dead following a crash that happened in Tangipahoa Parish on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers started investigating the two-vehicle crash, which happened on LA Highway 22 near Edwards Road, around 8:10 p.m.
Boil advisories issued in several parishes
The initial investigation showed that 65-year-old Peggy J. Williams was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer east on the highway when, simultaneously, a 2011 Ford F-150, driven by Kody A. Lacour, of Picayune, Mississippi, was heading west.
For reasons that are still being investigated, the Chevrolet crossed the centerline of the highway and hit the Ford head-on.
LSP officials said Williams was unrestrained and was critically injured in the crash. She was taken to a local hospital where she later died. Lacour was also unrestrained but only sustained minor injuries and denied treatment.
Multi parish water conservation orders issued
Troopers report that Lacour was allegedly impaired when the crash happened. He was arrested and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail where he is being charged with first offense DWI and obstruction of a court order.
The crash happened while roads were still under the effects of Louisiana's recent winter storm, and Troopers say that they are keeping the conditions in mind as possible contributing factors while the investigation continues.
