KILAUEA, Hawaii (KHON2) -- The National Park Service warned residents and visitors about elevated levels of vog in the summit area as well as Peleʻs hair which can be hazardous. Kilauea has been erupting off and on since two days before Christmas, having paused and restarted four other times since December. Mother narrowly rescues toddler from 400 foot fall into rumbling Kilauea Hazards still exist as vog can pose a hazard for everyone, particularly pregnant women, children and those with heart and respiratory issues. The NPS advises everyone to check air quality before and during their stay. "Peleʻs hair, which is produced by lava fountains, fell during the eruption on summit areas last night. It can be seen in clusters or in individual strands and should not be handled. The shards can cut you and cause eye and skin irritation," the NPS posted on social media.
