EDEN, N.C. (WGHP) — The community is rallying around the family of two firefighters in Eden who lost everything in a devastating house fire. On early Tuesday morning, a fire destroyed the home of the Bortz family, who live in the 900 block of Harris Street in Eden, as well as all of their belongings. Hardly anything was left of the home beyond charred walls and scattered debris. (Elijah Skipper/WGHP) The father and eldest son are firefighters with the Draper Volunteer Fire Department. Friends are working to raise funds for the family through a GoFundMe. The family plans to use the money to buy essentials like food, clothing and furniture. "They're trying their best to hold up," said Kyrstin Dixon who organized the GoFundMe for the family. "I mean, it's tough. You lose everything, and they're just trying to take it one day at a time basically." The family is also accepting physical donations, especially for warm clothes like jackets, thick socks, and work boots, as well as toiletries, food and dog food. Physical donations can be dropped off with the Draper Volunteer Fire Department, Leaksville Fire Department and Eden Rescue Squad. "I just want to thank the community and thank all the firefighters who have been with us during this difficult time," said Bobbie Wynn Bortz.
