More than 3,500 citations issued statewide during Click it or Ticket
Jan 23, 2025
NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — The results from North Dakota's Click it or Ticket enforcement campaign have come in, showing that 3,587 citations were given out from November 1 through December 12.
The Click it or Ticket campaign is meant to ensure that people drive safely on North Dakota roads, specifically encouraging drivers and passengers to wear their seatbelt. Law enforcement agencies across the state participated in the campaign to try and save lives on North Dakota roads.
2,382 of the citations were for failure to wear a seat belt, and 34 were child restraint citations. Another 384 of the tickets were for speeding. Other traffic stops, such as disobeying traffic signals, accounted for 353 citations. Outside of those, 120 citations were for uninsured motorists, and 121 were for suspended/revoked license violations. There were also 10 drug arrests, 18 citations for distracted driving, 14 warrants served and five driving under the influence arrests.

Preliminary 2024 data shows that, of all the motor vehicle fatalities where seat belts were present in the car, 46% were not buckled. The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) says that seat belts are the most effective safety device to prevent death and injury in a car crash.
Last year's Click it or Ticket campaign around the same time of year resulted in more than 3,700 citations, while the effort in May 2024 saw more than 4,200 people receive citations.
This effort is part of the state's mission to reach zero motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries on North Dakota roads. Learn more about this strategy at VisionZero.ND.gov. Join the conversation on the Vision Zero ND Facebook page.
