Exteacher gets 10 years probation stemming from alleged improper relationship with student

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A former teacher was sentenced to 10 years probation after she was accused of having an improper relationship with a student in 2022, court documents said.
Abigail Seidel pleaded guilty to the charge of an improper relationship between an educator and a student and was sentenced to 10 years deferred adjudication with community supervision, court documents said. In Texas, deferred adjudication is a type of probation that allows the person sentenced to keep the conviction off their criminal record if they follow the court-ordered guidelines.
Seidel is not allowed to participate in any activities with people who are 17 years old or younger -- unless they are her immediate family -- and is not allowed to have contact with the victim who reported the improper relationship, according to conditions listed in the order of community supervision. She does not have to register as a sex offender, according to court records.
Seidel, who was 25 at the time of the accusation, was a chemistry teacher at Smithville High School in Smithville and resigned from the position in May 2022, according to the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office. The teenage victim reported the incident to authorities in September 2022.
