ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — We all know about the ongoing debate over whether Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson or even Saquon Barkley deserve the NFL's MVP award. But for the second year in a row, Bills safety Damar Hamlin has been nominated for the AP Comeback Player of the Year. Many felt Hamlin deserved the honor last year when he returned to the field just months after his heart stopped after a hit against Cincinatti on January 2, 2023. But instead, veteran quarterback Joe Flacco got the nod after taking over in Cleveland and leading the Browns into the playoffs. This year, Hamlin was the Bills starting safety and finished third on the team in tackles while grabbing two interceptions. Hamlin was nominated along with Joe Burrow of the Bengals, Sam Darnold of the Vikings, J.K. Dobbins of the Chargers and Christian Gonzalez of the Patriots. Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady was nominated for the Assistant Coach of the Year award. Brady, who is now a hot head coaching prospect, helped the Bills average more than 30 points per game this season. Brady is up against Vic Fangio of the Eagles, Brian Flores of the Vikings, and Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson of the Lions (Glenn is the new Jets head coach and Johnson will be leading the Bears).
