CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was struck in Cumberland Wednesday evening. Police say a 42-year-old man was crossing High Street with a family member around 6 p.m. when he was struck by a car. The victim suffered significant injuries to the lower part of his body and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. Police say he is in stable condition at this time. Police say neither speed nor distracted driving appears to be a factor in the crash. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. They are not being cited at this time.
