JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Residents of Jefferson, St. John the Baptist, Orleans, and Lafourche parish are being asked to conserve water during the aftermath of the winter snowstorm.
Officials with the Jefferson Parish Water Department are urging West Bank and East Bank to begin conservation efforts as soon as possible to help minimize overloading the system that could result in a boil water advisory.
Snowfall causes water main breaks and frozen pipes
"Temperatures are expected to surpass 30 degrees around 9 a.m., therefore residents can now stop trickling water. Please also continue to limit non-essential activities like washing dishes and doing laundry," said water department officials.
In collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Health, a boil water advisory was issued for Grand Isle on Wednesday, Jan. 22 from Cheniere to Rosethorn Lane due to a loss of pressure caused by broken water pipes, according to officials.
In St. John Parish, Reserve, Garyville, Mt. Airy, Edgard Wallace, and Pleasure Bend are under a boil water advisory citing lower-than-normal water pressure.
As a result, parish officials are requesting that residents discontinue running faucets as the temperatures begin to warm up.
In Lafourche Parish, officials say the extreme demand on their system is greater than the Water Treatment Plant's capacity.
"If you have water currently, please use it sparingly and refrain from dripping your faucets sincethe temperatures have now risen above freezing," said parish officials.
New Orleans Sewerage and Water Boars officials said residents are being asked to avoid using appliances like dishwashers and washing machines.
Parishes under boil water advisories include:
Orleans Parish
Lafourche Parish
St. Bernard Parish
