Lincoln Police cruiser. (Jeff Motz/KFOR News)LINCOLN–(KFOR Jan. 22)–A scary situation for students and teachers on Wednesday afternoon at McPhee Elementary School just south of the State Capitol.
Lincoln Police say that around 1:30pm, a 26-year-old Lincoln man broke the exterior window with a knife and then an interior window to a classroom with an unsecured bicycle. Lincoln Public Schools interim Superintendent John Skretta said students and a teacher were in the classroom at the time.
“The teacher made a split second, great judgement to get students out of the classroom and to safety,” Skretta told reporters.
Officers responded immediately and the man was taken into custody within minutes. Police Captain Don Scheinost says it appears this could have been a mental health crisis with the man and there was no target on the school.
The man faces charges of terroristic threats, use of a weapon to commit a felony and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
