INDIANAPOLIS -- Three individuals were arrested after an initial stop for jaywalking led to a foot chase and the recovery of two firearms. According to a post on social media from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, detectives with IMPD's east district violence reduction team were patrolling in the 6200 block of Allisonville Road when they saw four individuals reportedly jaywalking in the intersection. When officers moved in to stop the individuals, three of them reportedly took off running in different directions. With assistance from the Indiana State Police, 21-year-old Rushawn Smith and 21-year-old Ky'Waun Smith were apprehended. The third individual in the group, identified by IMPD as 22-year-old Lamarvion Garner, continued to be pursued by officers. The post read that they saw Garner slide down an embankment. At the bottom of the embankment, officers reportedly located a loaded rifle. ‘Blow her head off’: Video shows armed man attack, threaten to shoot woman outside Indy gas station After a perimeter was set up around the area, Garner was reportedly seen exiting an apartment while wearing different clothing. The post read that when officers went to apprehend him, Garner reportedly went back inside. Garner later exited the apartment and was taken into custody, the post read. On a back patio of the apartment, police reportedly found a "freshly tossed firearm... located on top of snow, with no snow covering it." Officers then searched the apartment that Garner was seen exiting. The post read that officers reportedly found suspected cocaine, marijuana, ammunition and firearm magazines. Garner and Rushawn Smith were arrested on the following preliminary charges: Firearm possession by a serious violent felon Resisting law enforcement Ky'Waun Smith was arrested on the following preliminary charges: Resisting law enforcement Marijuana possession The post read that the individual who did not run away from officers was released at the scene. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make the final charging decisions.
