Carbon monoxide leak reported at Kernersville assisted living facility

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — Crews are currently at an assisted living facility in Kernersville after a reported carbon monoxide leak, according to Kernersville Fire Rescue.
On Thursday morning, crews came to an assisted living facility on the 600 block of Piney Grove Road in Kernersville after a carbon monoxide alarm was activated with people displaying symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Once at the scene, crews found elevated levels of carbon monoxide and natural gas in the building. Three people displayed symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and are being evaluated by Forsyth County EMS.

For their safety, people living at the facility are being sheltered in place in a section of the building that is free of carbon monoxide. The gas supply to the building has been shut off as crews work to identify and shut off the source of the carbon monoxide leak.
Fire rescue is working with EMS and Forsyth County Emergency Management to treat the people displaying symptoms and facilitate an evacuation of the building if necessary.
