More than 2 pounds of fentanyl found after Fort Wayne police find driver unresponsive in parked car

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Back in October of 2024, Fort Wayne police on patrol found a driver apparently passed out in a car parked at a gas station parking lot with the engine still running. That driver is now facing felony charges.
According to a criminal complaint filed January 10 in United States District Court, the police officers also saw a glass jar containing a green leafy material that later proved to be slightly more than 10 grams of marijuana.
Police were able to get the driver out of the car which they then searched. On the driver's side floor was a half-gallon plastic bag that contained smaller plastic bags that all contained a tan substance that later turned out to be fentanyl. Another, much larger, package was found in the trunk that also contained fentanyl. A "kilo press" was also found. The device is typically used to compress and package drugs.
The search also turned up more than $1,000 in cash and a digital scale that tested positive for cocaine.
The criminal complaint also indicates that while being interviewed, the driver, identified as Michael Orvas Beers, told officers he had purchased a kilo of drugs for $25,000.
He's now facing federal prosecution for possession and intent to distribute illegal drugs.
