(NEXSTAR) – The nominees for the 97th Academy Awards were announced Thursday morning after a pair of delays prompted by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. Comedians and actors Bowen Yang ("SNL," "Wicked") and Rachel Sennott ("Shiva Baby," "Bottoms") announced the nominees from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Leading the pack with a total of 13 nods is “Emilia Pérez.” The Spanish-language French-made film earned honors for Best Picture, Directing, Cinematography and more. The star of the film, Karla Sophia Gascon, was also nominated for Actress in a Leading Role, making her the first openly trans actor ever nominated for an Oscar. "The Brutalist" and "Wicked" also made strong showings with 10 nominations each, even despite recent controversy over the former's use of artificial intelligence.
