NATCHITOCHES, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—A free recital soon to take place at Northwestern State University will feature a cello player who graduated from Indiana University and Yale University and a collaborative pianist who graduated from the University of Maryland, Lee University, and National Taiwan Normal University.  Dennis Parker, the cellist, was born in New York City and began studying the cello with Channing Robbins of the Julliard School. The professor of cello and string chamber music at the Louisiana State University School of Music since 1988, Parker is a former member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and was the principal cellist of the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra in Brazil. Dr. Ying-Shan Su, a collaborative pianist, joined the Nicholls faculty in 2022. She previously served as the collaborative pianist at Duke Ellington School of Arts, Lee University, and Northwest Missouri State University. The Taiwan native received a government scholarship to study abroad from Taiwan's Ministry of Education. The recital will be held at Magale Recital Hall on Wed., Feb. 5, at 5:30 p.m. Admission to the recital is free.
